Evolve with Time
Klin has always provided the best quality products, but staying in business for more than 60 years means a store needs to evolve and adapt. Mr. Liu saw the need for change as Klin lost its monopoly status on imported goods trading.
He shifted the business focus to promoting Klin’s classic pork baos. Made with a secret recipe, Klin classic pork baos are easy to serve and are very satisfying. It became the “must eat” food for locals and tourists.
“A Dish in A Bao” The Utmost Delicacy
Klin’s third generation owner inherited the hot business of meat buns. Other than upgrading the ingredients in its products, Klin also switched to local food sources to reduce its carbon footprint.
“A dish in a bao” is Klin’s effort to perfect each bun by catering dough to different fillings. Each bite is the perfect combination of flavors and textures.
Tainan Macaron: Colorful Hollow Cookie
Other than its famous baos, customers can also find traditional Taiwanese pastries in Klin. One of the Klin specialties is traditional Tainan “hollow cookies”. A sugar filling in the center of dough forms an air bubble during baking, thus the name “hollow cookie”
Traditionally women fried the hollow cookie with sesame oil and eggs to nourish their bodies after childbirth. Nowadays, people enjoy hollow cookies as desserts.
Klin improved the recipe to prevent the cookie from cracking, and added more colors to rejuvenate this old time favorite with natural food colorings. The delightful colors merit the name “Tainan Macaron.”
